How Paper Changed Islamic Literary and Visual Culture

Jonathan M. Bloom, co-convener of the Hamad bin Khalifa symposia, shares the Hamad bin Khalifa Endowed Chair of Islamic Art at Virginia Commonwealth University with his wife Sheila Blair as well as the Norma Jean Calderwood University Professorship of Islamic and Asian Art at Boston College. He is the author, co-author, editor or co-editor of fifteen books and hundreds of articles on virtually all aspects of Islamic art, including his prize-winning book, Paper before Print: The History and Impact of Paper in the Islamic Lands. His special interest is the role of paper in the development of Islamic civilization and its arts.
