We are pleased to be returning to Doha for the Eighth Biennial Hamad bin Khalifa Symposium on Islamic Art and we hope that you enjoy your visit to this fabulous city if you are coming from abroad. There is much to see in the city, including the famed Museum of Islamic Art, Mathaf (the Arab museum of modern art), the Doha Fire Station (a contemporary artist residency with a gallery open to the public) and outside of the city, the Sheikh Faisal Museum and Richard Serra’s site-specific art installation, East-West.
Traveling to Doha
Hamad International Airport is served by a number of international carriers; Qatar Airways flies from over 140 different destinations, so please check out their website as you plan your travel. You may either arrange a car service through your hotel for airport transfers or take a taxi from the airport into Doha, which will take approximately 20-40 minutes, depending on where you are going in the city, and cost 60-75Qatari Riyals ($15-$20). Please note that taxi drivers will not accept credit cards, only Qatari Riyals. There is an ATM in the arrivals hall of the airport.
Visas
Please see this web page for up-to-date information on visas. Please note that all Symposium attendees are responsible for obtaining their own visas for entry into Qatar.
Lodging in Doha
The Symposium will be held at VCUarts Qatar, in Education City, Doha. The closest hotel is the Premier Inn Education City Doha, which has a complimentary shuttle at set times throughout the day to and from Education City. Driving time is less than 10 minutes.
Doha has plentiful hotels further afield, including the Souq al Waqif boutique hotels, located in the historic Souq al Waqif, a 25-minute drive to Education City.
